Two figures are joined when they share more motifs and powers than chance would give two figures with vocabularies that size — a hypergeometric test at α = 0.01. Traits carried by more than 8% of the corpus are left out of the test, because a trait like “has a long body” would otherwise join everything to everything.

1002 affinities are drawn at rest and 1156 more appear when you focus a figure. Resemblance is not descent — two beings can share every trait and have no connection between them — so the 26 gold lines are drawn only where a source says one came from the other.
