Danger in mere glimpse

A motif, one of the traits figures share. All traits.

4 figures

Ninki Nanka

A central and consistently attested belief is that merely seeing the Ninki Nanka is dangerous: in many tellings, those who glimpse it are said to fall ill, go mad, or die soon afterward, and the creature is sometimes invoked by elders as a warning to children to stay away from certain waterways.

Qiqion

What is consistently attributed to Qiqion is a single dangerous effect: anyone, human or dog, who sees it directly, or in some accounts merely crosses its tracks, is said to fall into violent convulsions resembling a seizure.

utukku

In the later compendia the utukku appears fully specialized: an evil spirit that lurks in the desert lying in wait for travelers, that haunts graveyards, mountains, and even the sea, and whose mere sight dooms the seer to a grim fate.

Cadejo

some tellings hold that looking directly into a Cadejo Negro's eyes can bring harm or bad luck.
